Program Overview
To open the program, the Orchestra will perform Paul Hindemith's masterpiece, Symphonic Metamorphosis. And then to close the first part, Cleveland International Competition winner, Roberto Plano, from Italy returns to Corvallis to perform Mozart's 23rd Piano Concerto.  As the grand finale, the American Horn Quartet will perform Robert Schumann's spectacular and rarely heard Concertpiece for Four Horns.  All four members of this heralded ensemble are Americans who occupy significant positions in European orchestras.

First Prize Winner of the 2001 Cleveland International Piano Competition, Finalist at the Twelfth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2005, Laureates of the 2003 Honens International Piano Competition (Calgary, Canada) and the 2006 Axa Dublin International Piano Competition, Italian pianist Roberto Plano has performed throughout North America.

made him a favorite for guest appearances on a number of radio stations, including NPR’s Performance Today, WNYC in New York City, and WGBH’s Classics in the morning (Boston).

 
American Horn Quartet
Established in 1982 by four Americans who perform in well known European orchestras, the American Horn Quartet enjoys an ever increasing popularity in the brass chamber music world. Its members have won numerous prizes as soloists at international competitions in Europe and North America. American Horn Quartet

Unique in the field of chamber music performance, the American Horn Quartet offers an intriguing repertoire which includes not only traditional works for horn, but imaginative arrangements of works of diverse genres as well as prize winning original compositions by members of the Quartet itself. The result is a refreshing new realization of the possibilities of horn performance. The ensemble continues to record concerts for live radio and television broadcast and has produced nine compact discs which have received rave reviews. The American Record Guide recently described the AHQ as "the finest brass chamber ensemble in the world."
